Baby Food...For Daddy & Blender Recipes

This past Friday I woke up nervous. The clock read 5am and I counted down the hours till 10am when I would have my wisdom teeth yanked out. I had put this operation off for the past few years but I couldn't delay any longer… Not because of pain or discomfort but because our insurance benefits would be expiring at the end of this month! (More Info on this here) All in all the appointment went well…no compilations, a few funny stories from my wife about ninja moves in the car on the ride home and with some steady dosages of IBuprofen the pain is minimal.
While the med's are dealing with the aches of the mouth I cant seem to fill the aches of my belly with this baby mush! We had stocked up on the mushy staples like: fruit popsicles, apple sauce, soup, mashed potatoes & puddings (and I even bought some Happy Tots food packs - for me). After eating a few fruit popsicles, apple sauce, mashed potatoes and some pudding and still feeling hungry I realized the majority of what I was sucking down was empty calories. I needed some real nutritious food! So I decided to visit my old friend vitamix.
Here are a few recipes we blended up this weekend that were easy on the mouth and good for the belly & body!
Vanilla Peach Smoothie
Shae made me this delicious peach smoothie. She made two rounds one with frozen peaches and one with FRESH peaches. Guess which one tasted better? The fresh hands down! It really hit the spot!
- 2 peaches
- 1 banana
- 1/4 cup soymilk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 6 ice cubes
- 1 Tbsp optional sweetener unrefined sugar, honey, agave nectar or stevia

{Paisley loved her smoothie!}
Carrot Coconut & Curry Soup
After pawing through some cookbooks a Carrot & Curry Soup caught my eye. We didnt have all the ingredients on hand so we had to improvise a bit... but the end resuly was delicious! The recipe was definitely a keeper! (I am going to tweak this recipe a bit and post it on the site soon.)
- 8 medium Carrots
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup cashews
- 1 can coconut milk
- 2 tsp curry powder
- garlic salt to taste
Place all ingredients in vita-mix and blend on super-high until smooth & warm (approx 5min).

{Soup was delicious!!!}
While I was nervous about this whole ripping my teeth out procedure I can honestly say it went better than expected. (I think my fathers wisdom teeth experience scarred me as his operation lasted over a span of several days transitioning from a general dentist to an oral surgeon. I can still remember the groans from him on the couch!) While there are moments of discomfort after popping a few IB's I am good!
I am also pleased with this operation (not only because it cost $200 instead of $2000) but this weekends exploration with blender foods has got me excited about posting more blender recipes. The blender can be such a practical tool in whole food cooking but often gets, "left on the shelf". So more blender recipes to come...
I hope you had a delightful fathers day weekend!
