Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Description
Still choosing cold cereal each morning because it’s quick and easy? It’s time to replace that highly processed, expensive habit. Hot cereals are nutritious, high in fiber, easy on the wallet and, let’s face it, about as quick and easy as their cold counterparts. Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal has it all with lots of whole grains and naturally sweet apples!
Ingredients
- 1 3⁄4 c water
- 1 c rolled oats
- 1 apple - diced
- 2 tbsp milled flax seed
- 1⁄4 c walnut peices
- 2 tbsp brown sugar (optional)
- ds cinnamon
- soy milk
Instructions
1. Add water to a pot and heat on medium/high.
2. Core and dice apple into small chunks, then add to water. Simmer apples for about 5 minutes.
3. Add oats, flax, nuts and sweeteners. Stir quickly 1-2 times. (Just enough to mix the standing water over the dry ingredients. Note: Over stirring will make a sticky consistency)
4. Remove from heat and place a lid on the pot. Allow pot to set for 3-5 min.
5. Remove lid, stir and serve with a splash of soy milk.
Notes
This recipe can have many variations. Try adding additional grains, fruits and/or nuts.
